Les Gourley
Les Gourley came to Newfoundland from southern Ontario and painted in St. John's
and nearby towns for nearly thirty years - from the mid-1940's to the mid-1970's. He
was primarily a watercolourist but painted some oils and did a number of drawings. He
produced a line of reproductions of his most popular work. He had a considerable
reputation in St. John's during his time there but, alas, has fallen into obscurity
since his death. There are some remarkable watercolours held in private collections
& a large oil hangs in City Hall in St. John's. Very occasionally we have handled
pieces for auction (Reynolds Auctions Ltd.) or for private sale.
